Fermi accelerator in atom optics

چکیده
We study the classical and quantum dynamics of a Fermi accelerator realized by an atom bouncing off a modulated atomic mirror. We find that in a window of the modulation amplitude, dynamical localization occurs in both position and momentum. A recent experiment @A. Steane, P. Szriftgiser, P. Desbiolles, and J. Dalibard, Phys. Rev. Lett. 74, 4972 ~1995!# shows that this system can be implemented experimentally. @S1050-2947~98!04212-7#

Classical and Quantum Chaos in Atom Optics
The interaction of an atom with an electromagnetic field is discussed in the presence of a time periodic external modulating force. It is explained that a control on atom by electromagnetic fields helps to design the quantum analog of classical optical systems. In these atom optical systems chaos may appear at the onset of external fields. The classical and quantum chaotic dynamics is discussed...
متن کاملQuantization of electromagnetic fields in the presence of a spherical semiconductor quantum dot and spontaneous decay of an excited atom doped in this nanostructure
In this paper we consider electromagnetic field quantization in the presence of a dispersive and absorbing semiconductor quantum dot. By using macroscopic approach and Green's function method, quantization of electromagnetic field is investigated. Interaction of a two-level atom , which is doped in a semiconductor quantum dot, with the quantized field is considered and its spontaneous emission ...
متن کاملQuantum accelerator modes: A tool for atom optics
We describe an atom-optical technique for producing large changes in the momentum of cold atoms using a pulsed standing wave of off-resonant light. Experimental results are presented showing how the efficiency and the amount of momentum transfer depend on the parameters of the light field. We also present a theoretical analysis and derive a closed formula which is in excellent agreement with th...

متن کاملDriving superfluidity with photoassociation.
We theoretically examine photoassociation of a two-component Fermi degenerate gas. Our focus is on adjusting the atom-atom interaction, and thereby increasing the critical temperature of the BCS transition to the superfluid state. In order to avoid spontaneous decay of the molecules, the photoassociating light must be far-off resonance. Very high light intensities are therefore required for eff...
